Plants for every corner of your garden!

Creating a beautiful garden starts with selecting the right plants for the right spots. Whether your garden has full sun, part sun, or full shade areas, there's a perfect plant to thrive and add beauty to each corner. By carefully considering the sunlight each area receives, you can save time and money as your garden flourishes for years to come.

Roadmap:

  1. Full Sun
  2. Part Sun
  3. Full Shade

Here’s a guide to help you select the best plants for each type of light exposure in your garden:

Plants that thrive in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight) often have high heat and drought tolerance, making them perfect for sunny spots in your garden.

Butterfly Bush:

Known for attracting butterflies and other pollinators, butterfly bushes offer vibrant blooms in various colors, from purples and pinks to whites and yellows. They are also heat—and drought-tolerant, making them perfect for sunny locations.

Honeysuckles:

Honeysuckles are vigorous climbers with sweetly scented flowers. Their tubular blooms come in a range of colors, and they thrive in full sun. Once established, they are also drought tolerant.

Crapemyrtle:

Crapemyrtles are small trees or shrubs known for their long-lasting summer blooms and beautiful bark. They can handle the heat well and are drought tolerant, making them excellent for sunny spots.

Ninebark:

With its striking foliage, ninebark adds interest year-round. It’s a hardy plant that can thrive in full sun and is relatively drought-tolerant.

Potentilla:

Potentilla shrubs are tough, easy to grow, and bloom profusely throughout the summer. They are highly adaptable and thrive in full sun and well-drained soil.

Rose:

Roses are classic garden favorites known for their fragrant, beautiful flowers. Many modern rose varieties are bred for disease resistance and heat tolerance, making them suitable for sunny spots. All roses in the Bloomin’ Easy Collection are self-cleaning, making them even easier to take care of once they are established in your garden.

Spirea:

Spireas are reliable, easy-to-grow shrubs that produce an abundance of flowers. They are also heat—and drought-tolerant, perfect for adding color to sunny areas of the garden.

Weigela:

Weigelas are known for their tubular, colorful flowers and attractive foliage. They thrive in full sun and are drought-tolerant once established.

Part-sun areas receive 3-6 hours of direct sunlight per day. These spots are ideal for plants that need some protection from the harshest midday sun.

Reblooming Hydrangeas:

Reblooming hydrangeas are wonderful for part sun areas. They can tolerate some heat but do best with afternoon shade. Their large, colorful blooms add a touch of elegance to any garden.

Full-shade areas receive less than 3 hours of direct sunlight per day. While these spots can be challenging, many plants are well-suited to thrive in low light.

Hostas:

Hostas are popular for their lush, broad leaves and tolerance of shady conditions. They come in various sizes and shades of green, often with variegated patterns.

Astilbes:

Astilbes produce beautiful, feathery plumes of flowers in shades of pink, white, and red. They prefer shady spots with consistent moisture.

Coral Bells:

Heucheras, also known as Coral Bells, have colorful foliage that ranges from deep purples to bright greens. They are perfect for adding color and texture to shaded areas.

By choosing the right plants for each corner of your garden, you can create a stunning, thriving landscape. From the heat-tolerant butterfly bushes and roses in sunny spots to the elegant hydrangeas in part sun and lush hostas in the shade, there’s a plant for every place in your garden.

Happy gardening!
